ABOUT US
Launched June 1st 2026, SBPC was created to provide passionate pistol shooters with greater flexibility, broader access to ranges, and a modern approach to the sport across the greater Sydney region.
We are proud to be breaking the mold and pushing the boundaries of pistol target shooting in NSW. While our home base is located in Silverdale, SBPC is a Sydney-wide pistol club owned and operated by the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA) Sydney Branch.
Whether you’re an experienced shooter looking to join a progressive club, or completely new to the sport and wanting to begin your firearms journey, SBPC is built to support shooters at every level.
To get started, join the Club and book your next session. If you’re unlicenced, we offer Safe Handling Courses to kickstart your pistol journey. For licenced members, sign up, grab your gun, and head to your selected range(s) to start shooting!

MEMBERSHIP TIERS & COSTS
- BRONZE – $100/yr (1 Range)
- SILVER – $250/yr (3 Ranges)
- GOLD – $350/yr (All Access – coming soon)
New Member Fee: $200 (one-off, in addition to selected tier).
Memberships are valid for 12 months.
You may increase your Tier at any time by paying a pro-rata fee, or downgrade when renewing your membership.
Please note, a .30c + 1.7% surcharge applies to all card payments to cover processing fees.
HOW MEMBER TIERS WORK
Select your preferred home range or ranges. Only shoots made at those ranges will be added to your yearly attendance.
Members must complete a minimum of six (6) attendances during the reporting period. There is no minimum monthly requirement or minimum competitions to attend.
You may still shoot at ranges you have not selected, but they will not count towards your yearly attendance, nor will you be permitted to compete in events.
Our Reporting Period is July 1st – June 30th.
TRAINING
After being approved to join the Club, you can book your Pistol Safe Handling Course.
Pistol Safe Handling Course Fee: $450 adult / $225 junior
The Process:
- Join the Club and book your Pistol Safe Handling Course. The course is held over one (1) day.
- Theory: learning safe handling skills, range commands, components of a pistol, licencing and Club rules
- Practical: applying safe handling skills and range commands learned in the prior lesson with live ammunition
- Apply for your Probationary Pistol Licence (PPL) through Service NSW Gun Safe Portal
- Attend three (3) Novice and three (3) Trainee shoots after receiving PPL
- Attend Final Exam after holding PPL for six (6) months
- Upgrade to Category H Licence after holding PPL for 12 months
- After upgrading to Category H, you must then comply with Club Attendance Requirements
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I purchase a pistol? What is a Permit to Acquire (PTA)?
When purchasing any firearm, you must submit a Permit to Acquire through the NSW Gun Safe Portal.
- Go to the Gun Safe Portal and login with your Service NSW account
- Click ‘Permit to Acquire Application’
- Follow the instructions and pay the $30 fee
- Our Club Approval Number is 413281605
- Once you receive the PTA Application number (looks like A-YYYYMMDD-12345678), email the Club with your:
- PTA Application number
- Firearms licence number and type (Cat H or PPL)
- Full name and Member number
Be aware that you MUST have adequate safe storage (which has been inspected by Police if it is not stored at an approved facility) and the appropriate Firearms Licence or Permit. You may rent storage at St Marys Indoor Shooting Centre (30 Power St, St Marys).
Probationary Pistol Licences holders are limited to a maximum of 2 firearms of either Rimfire or Centrefire calibre/s. You may not purchase more than 2, or a mix of calibre types.
NOTE FOR PPL HOLDERS: By law, you must be in the 2nd 6 months of your PPL AND have completed Graduation. The Club will refuse your PTA Application if you have not yet completed Graduation.
Is this safe for kids? What are the age requirements?
Yes! Because of the strict rules, disciplines and training regiments employed on ranges and by our Instructors, shooting is one of the safest sports around. Kids as young as 12 can get involved in the sport on a Minor’s Permit, until the age of 18. At that point, they will need to upgrade to a full Category H licence (which is as simple as renewing their licence online).
Naturally, there are some restrictions that children have on a Minor’s Permit. For example, minors cannot purchase their own firearms until they move up to a Category H licence. They will also always need to be supervised, and cannot shoot by themselves without a licenced adult present.
